Seventh-day Adventist Periodical Index and Obituary Index: About the Indexes

About the Seventh-day Adventist Periodical Index

The Seventh-day Adventist Periodical Index provides citation indexing to approximately 70 past and current Seventh-day Adventist journals and magazines.  The Association of Seventh-day Adventist Librarians supports and produces the Index at editorial offices located at Andrews University.  Supporters include the Seventh-day Adventist college and university libraries in North America, the North American Division Office of Education, and the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

The Index originated in the early 1970s.  Currently the index provides citation indexing from 1973 to the present, or the last issue published.  Providing links to the full text of the actual articles indexed began in the early years of the 21st century.  There is still much work to be done to retrospectively add links to as many citations as possible from the past.  Many current periodicals do not have digital copies of their publications available so we cannot provide links to those.  Lastly, some publishers do not allow the Index to provide links to their magazine content.

Obtaining Copies of Articles

After locating the article citation that meets your research needs, check your local Adventist library for the journal or magazine you need.  If it is not available locally, contact the Andrews University Center for Adventist Research to request a copy of the article.  Contact the Center at car@andrews.edu.

About Seventh-day Adventist Obituary Index

The Seventh-day Adventist Obituary Index is a cooperative indexing project coordinated through the Association of Seventh-day Adventist Librarians.  The Andrews University Center for Adventist Research maintains the Index.

Included in the Obituary Index are citations to obituaries that appeared in a select list of Seventh-day Adventist periodicals namely the Review and Herald/Adventist Review, the North American Division union papers, British Union Messenger, and the South Pacific Division Record.

Obtain Copies of the Obituaries

Search the Adventist Digital Library and Adventist Archives for the indicated periodical title and find the correct issue.  If this does not work, contact the Andrews University Center for Adventist Research at car@andrews.edu to request a copy of the obituary.
