Online Journal Article

Basic format for a reference to an article in an online journal without DOI:

AuthorLastname FirstInitial.Title of article in sentence case. Abbreviated Title of Periodical. (Use National Library of Medicine abbreviations) Year;vol(issue#):PP-PP. URL (copy and paste the url which will go most directly to the article--no need to use "URL"). Published [date]. Updated [date]. Accessed [date]. (accessed date is often the only date available)

example:

1.  Duchin JS. Can preparedness for biological terrorism save us from pertussis? Arch Pediatr Adolesc Med. 2004:158(2):106-107. http://archpedi.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/full/158/2/106. Accessed June 1, 2004.

Online journal article with DOI Assigned:

AuthorLastname FirstInitial.Title of article in sentence case. Abbreviated Title of Periodical. (Use National Library of Medicine abbreviations) Year;vol(issue#):PP-PP. DOI (no need to use URL or access date).
